MARINOL (dronabinol)

MARINOL is used for a loss of appetite associated with weight loss in patients with "Auto-Immune" type disorders and is also used to treat nausea and vomiting that is associated with certain medications associated with multiple sclerosis whereby the MS patient has not responded to standard treatments for nausea and vomiting. If you're on a medication like Methotrexate, this daily medication might just help. Also commonly used with Cancer patients.

Having been on Marinol in the early stages of my MS life, I did not experience any benefits to the drug as stated. I was pulled off the drug due to my history of seizures and heart problems (AFIB and a Mitro-Valve Prolapse). So remember, just because a drug does not work on one patient, does not mean it will not work for you in your current condition, so discuss this with your Doc! jefff

FDA approved for the control of weight lost or a decline in weight stabilization due to various medications associated with auto-immune type disorders or inefficiencies. MARINOL can assist in managing nausea and vomiting associated with auto-immune disorders while using particular medications whereby the MS patient may have failed to respond adequately to conventional treatments to relieve nausea and vomiting.

MARINOL should not be used if you are allergic to dronabinol or any of its ingredients, including marijuana and sesame oil. While taking MARINOL, do not drink alcohol, smoke marijuana, or take other drugs that have an effect on the central nervous system such as Valium (diazepam), Librium (chlordiazepoxide), Xanax (alprazolam), Seconal (secobarbital), Nembutal (pentobarbital), or phenobarbital. Do not take if there is a history of seizure disorders and/or seizure-like activity because this has occurred in people taking MARINOL. If you experience a seizure, stop taking MARINOL and seek medical attention immediately. Do not take if you've had heart problems because you may experience low or high blood pressure, fainting, or fast heart rate. Do not take if you have current issues with or a history of drug and alcohol abuse. Do not take if you have or had mental health problems (mania, depression, schizophrenia) because MARINOL may make these illnesses worse.

*Not to be taken if you are pregnant, nursing or plan on becoming pregnant.

*You may experience changes in mood or have other effects when first taking MARINOL. Be sure that there is a responsible person nearby when you first take MARINOL or when there is an adjustment in your dose.

*Do not smoke marijuana while using MARINOL as this may cause an overdose. The adverse effects you may experience while taking MARINOL include feeling high, dizziness, confusion, or sleepiness.
